World Cup Soccer Champions and my Mom

As I wait with anticipation for the 2014 World Cup to begin today, it brings back great memories of my mom and her interesting life.

My mom dated Fritz Walter, the team captain of the German World Cup Champions of 1954.  Fritz Walter later had the soccer stadium in Kaiserlautern Germany named after him, along with a street in down town K-town.

I remember my mom telling me  stories about this exciting time in her life as she shared many photos with me.  One of my favorite is the one I am sharing with you here.  She was the queen of the Victory parade in 1954 in West Germany.
The devil standing next to her was the team mascot, "Der Rote Teufel" (The Red Devil).

What a cool mom I had!
